Dale Hickey

Dale Hickey Dale has been active in the world of muscle cars and classics for years. For the past 4 seasons, he has been the organizer and host of one of Winnipeg, Manitoba’s largest weekly show ‘n shines. Drag racing was always his favourite sport; following hero Don “Big Daddy” Garlits and others like Connie Kalitta, and “The Snake” Prudhomme in the hot rod mags of the day and on “Wide World of Sports”. It was “just natural” for Dale to recruit his friend, Don Goodfellow and his drag racing pals from the Drag Racers Association of Manitoba to feature their rides at Cruisin’ the Peg. Two-time IHRA Pro Mod Champion, Kenny Lang even visited the show! Next, Gimli Dragway owner Blaine Krawchuk agreed to become a sponsor. That’s where it started. A couple of years ago, Dale crossed the finish line as a fan and became an active member of the drag race community. In 2010, he accepted a position on the D.R.A.M. executive as well as a promotions challenge at Gimli Dragway. His main drive is to grow public awareness of drag racing, provincially and Canada-wide. He believes that the sport is enjoying a major resurgence to the levels of the 60s and 70s. What better way to get the word out than writing about the “fastest sport on earth”? Dale has joined Canadian Drag Racer Magazine to highlight Manitoba events and racers – their vehicles and their accomplishments. He hopes that readers will enjoy his “across the coffee table” style of writing. He welcomes any Manitoba race enthusiast to contact him with ideas, new car builds, upcoming events and comments.
