2011 Stock/Super Stock Challenge Series

Cape Breton, NS (Feb 13 2011) Based on the success of the 2010 Challenge Series, event organizers Jeff Kempton and Mark Howes have laid out the groundwork for the 2011 series. The big news for this season will be the addition of a fourth race to the schedule.

The main goal for Kempton & Howes has been to showcase the high calibre of class racers here in the Maritimes and to have them compete once again locally on four separate race-days. Many of our regions stock and super stock racers have, for many years, been travelling great distances to compete. Some of these cars are pretty well known south of our borders, as there has been many big rounds and races won by our east coast class racers.

This four race series will run in conjunction with four of the eight races in the Atlantic Drag Racing Association 2011 season schedule. The series will start with the first round taking place on June 18 at Greenfield Dragway, which is just over an hour west of Halifax. Race 2 will see the series move to Raceway Park in PEI on July 2nd. Kempton adds, “Most of our class racers, started their careers on the sacred grounds of the legendary Raceway Park.” It’s no secret either, that everyone enjoys the return visits to RWP. The third round will move the series to Miramichi Dragway Park, in Miramichi, NB. On July 30th, their track crews will again perform their magic to provide these torque monsters all the bite they can handle. The summer sun should provide loads of excitement as the points chase heats up. To close out the series, Greenfield Dragway will be buzzing on September 24th as the 2011 series will draw to a close and then crown its champion.

Kempton expects many of the sponsors from the 2010 series will again step up to support the 2011 series. The payouts will be spread over the 4 events as well as the championship point’s series. As it stands now there will be about $6000 up for grabs but that number could grow between now and race day.

Kempton says it’s also worth noting that this series is open to all Stock and Super Stock classes recognized by IHRA. These classes include:

- Super Stock
- Super Stock/GT
- SS/GT Front-Wheel Drive Conversion
- GT/Truck
- Super Stock Production
- Super Stock Modified
- Modified Truck
- Modified Stock
- Modified Compact - Includes FWD classes
- MX

- Stock
- Stock Fuel Injection
- Stock Trucks
- Stock GT - Autos and Trucks
- Pure Stock
- Crate Motor Stock

IHRA rules will be enforced. A definition of each of the above classes and a full explanation of the rules can be found at the following link:

The points for the 2011 Stock/Super Stock Challenge Series will be awarded based on the following format.

Attend the race and go through Tech inspection: 20 pts.
Each Round Won Through Quarter Finals: 20 pts.
Semi-Final Round Win: 22 pts.
Final Round Win: 23 pts.

In closing, Kempton would like to extend an open invitation to any class racers that wish to join in the east coast excitement. He adds, “This is currently the only active Stock/Super Stock series in Eastern Canada.  Everyone is always welcome and if you require any additional information please don’t hesitate to ask.” Jeff Kempton can be reached at   jeffkempton@hotmail.com
